Founded in late 2007 by film producer Nicholas Shumaker and journalist turned producer/director Alex Mar, Empire 8 Productions is a development and production company based in New York City. The company creates narrative feature-length films, internationally viable documentaries, challenging non-fiction television programming, and new media projects. Fusing backgrounds in print and television journalism, feature-film financing, and documentary co-productions, Mar and Shumaker have quickly compiled a slate of projects in varying stages of production with experienced production teams, critically heralded directors, and manageable budgets.
